The Call to Sanctification, Pt. 2
Passage: 1 Thessalonians 4:3–4:8
In this sermon podcast on 1 Thessalonians 4:3(b)-8, Pastor Brent calls all believers to excel still more in their sanctification by giving them “3” biblical principles to pursue and maintain sexual purity.
As Paul calls the Thessalonians to pursue their sanctification by excelling still more, he has some specific areas of sanctification in mind that they need to excel in. The first area of conduct that the Apostle addresses is that of sexual purity. The Thessalonians believers were saved out of a culture that was very sexually permissive and even promoted sexual license. Now, as believers, they were confronted by a whole new standard, God’s standard, concerning sexual purity.
Paul had taught them this standard when he was with them in Thessalonica; however, it seems that after Timothy visited the city and brought his report back to Paul that members of this new church will still struggling in the area of sexual purity. Therefore Paul decides in his first letter to address the issue head on by giving them stern warnings that also serve as principles to avoid sexual immorality and pursue sexual purity. In this message, Pastor Brent explains Paul’s warnings and gives us “3” biblical principles through which believers can pursue purity in their own life and conduct.
