Standing Firm in a Hostile World
Topic: Standing Firm Passage: 2 Thessalonians 2:15–2:17
In this sermon podcast on 2 Thessalonians 2:15-17 Pastor Brent provides 3 “action steps” to stand firm in a hostile world.
Since the horrible death of Christ, the church has faced hostility and persecution from the world. The forms of hostility that come are timeless in nature. The Thessalonian church faced many acts of aggression from the enemy and evil men for their faith. They were slandered, dragged into the streets, attacked with false teaching and economically persecuted. There is nothing new under the sun when it comes to hostility against God’s people from the world.
In our modern age, Christians face hostility from the world and the forms are no different. As the end time events approach, this hostility will only increase in intensity. Although we are saved and our position is now in heaven with Christ, we remain on this earth to win souls. We are on the path of the Christian life and striving toward the yonder wicket gate which is our entrance to heaven.
As we walk, how will we “stand firm in a hostile world”? How will we maintain a godly testimony and withstand the attacks of the enemy and this world? The Thessalonians would continue to face persecution and so will Christians of all ages. Thus, in these three verses, the Apostle Paul provides the Thessalonians and all believers with action steps so that we may stand firm.
